Bug Parc in Norfolk
Insect Park in Norfolk
Insect Park in Norfolk is a real paradise for people who are interested in insects, spiders and other crawling animals. If you are one of them, you will definitely not regret spending time there. The park will give you the opportunity to see thousands of species of insects and various interactive zones, which I will tell you about in more detail later. And now I would like to pay a little attention to the history of the park, the idea to create it came from a man named Martin French 20 years ago. He is incredibly fond of insects and has created a whole collection at home and decided that he wanted other people to share his passion. Martin created the park in 2020 exactly as he had imagined it all these long years while collecting insects and spiders. The owner has put his heart and soul into the creation of this park and continues to improve it more and more every year, on the Bug Parc website you can find out about the upcoming attractions and interactive zones that will soon open there.
Construction of the park began when Martin bought the land and started building it in 2020 during the pandemic. A piece of this picturesque nature with incredible inhabitants is located in the countryside, where you will not only enjoy watching all kinds of exotic insects to the fullest but also take a break from the heavy rhythm of the city. Of course, the primary objective of this zoo with animals is to introduce people to insects, spiders and other small animals, and to prove to people who are not very good with insects that most of them do not harm people, but rather help our environment to exist better and without certain problems in our ecosystem that may be caused by the complete absence of insects in it. Be assured that all insects are kept in excellent conditions, where they are cared for in the way that is necessary for their survival.
Education and awareness is one of the driving tools nowadays, the more people know, the less damage they will do to the environment. In order to better reach children and introduce them to insects, the park offers many entertainment options. One of the largest is a 6 by 6 metre cushion that you can jump on, small cars that you can drive around the park, and benches to have a picnic with your family or friends.
There are also several other types of entertainment in the park, the first of which I would like to talk about is the ant farm, this exhibit helps adults and children to get acquainted with the life of ants, how their beating is arranged, the hierarchy and what and how they behave when food or a predator enters their farm. Visitors can even take part in feeding the ants and perhaps think about whether they would like to have a small farm with ants at home, as they are freely available for sale and can live safely in someone's home if they are properly cared for. The second interesting exhibit I would like to talk about is the Tropical Dome with butterflies. There are both small common butterflies that we are used to seeing every day in the warm seasons and large African butterflies that amaze people with the scale and beauty of their wings. And, of course, people can observe how butterflies behave with each other and in their usual habitat, because the enclosures for each species of insects are as close as possible to how.
The third equally interesting exhibit is the so-called Water World, a place where many species of aquatic and surface insects, such as water beetles and dragonflies, live. As with the two previous exhibits, this one also imitates the natural habitat of all the listed species of animals as much as possible. Aquatic insects, very interesting to observe, you will definitely enjoy watching them.
But as mentioned above, the Insect Park is famous not only for its insects and reptiles but also for various interactive activities. The park staff will be happy to give you a guided tour that will tell you interesting and sometimes surprising facts about the insects that live there, and of course will gladly answer all your questions, tours are held for groups, school classes and families. The park also conducts lectures and seminars, which, as you might have guessed, are dedicated to insects and spiders, where everyone can learn interesting information about their favourite animals from experienced entomologists (insect specialists).
Also, you are unlikely to be indifferent to the fact that the park hosts insect festivals, during which you can also take part in various master classes and competitions. Night excursions are probably something that very few zoos can boast of, but this one can, you will have a unique opportunity to see insects that are active only at night, excursions are conducted with special lighting, which allows you to see insects even better than even during the day. Of course, after a busy programme and after spending 2-3 hours observing insects, anyone will want to have a snack, there is a Cafe and shop in the park, which offers a wide range of dishes, desserts and drinks, including vegetarian and vegan options. In the store you can buy books and toys about insects and other souvenirs that will remind you of this wonderful day. There are also products for keeping insects at home, food and other accessories.
So, to sum up, I can say that Bug Parc is a great place where people who love and are interested in insects can spend time. A great place for entertainment, learning and family fun. Regardless of whether you like insects or not, you will definitely be interested in this park. Spending a little time to get to the park will definitely not make you regret it, and I am sure that after visiting this park you will have a slightly different impression of insects and their life cycle.
